2009 SFP Cup Champions

June 2009 – Congratulations to G’s Army, the 2009 Soccer for Peace Cup Champions !!(click here for photos)

Facing off against formidable finals foe, Paul Weiss, G’s Army came up triumphant in a tightly contested championship match. It was a nail-biter by all accounts.

Held on June 27th 2009, the Second Annual Soccer for Peace Cup brought together 28 teams in an intense and spirited competition held at Randall’s Island. Corporate teams (including Latham & Watkins, Major League Soccer, Modell's, etc) played against recreational sides, with all proceeds supporting Soccer for Peace's work in the Middle East

“I can’t think of a better, more fun way to contribute to the peace process than playing competitive & friendly soccer at this incredible event” said Michael Gumbley, 2009 SFP Cup participant. His sentiments were echoed by other attendees, players and audience members alike, who enjoyed not only the play but food, music, and a colossal dunk tank.

Over 300 participants took part in the all-day event which raised in excess of $40,000 for Soccer for Peace’s Camp Coexistence.

“The generosity of corporations and individuals alike is the bloodline of this organization. For the second year in a row, the Soccer for Peace Cup has brought together many supporters in a celebration of our joint efforts to bring about change in the Middle East. I am delighted by the turn out and positive feedback from participants” said Ori Winitzer, Soccer for Peace’s Founder and Chairman of the Board.

Preparations are already underway for the 2010 Cup, scheduled to take place on June 26th. To the extent you wish to participate, as organizer or player, or merely provide feedback, please write to info@soccerforpeace.com
